File setup info for 35mm slides from your file

Supported Software
Please view our slide tips (in sidebar at right) for specific setup requirements.
Note: view Photoshop tips for setup info for files created in any photo editing software.

Aspect Ratio
Slides should be designed in a 2:3 ratio to properly fill the slide mount. (A page size that is not 2:3 ratio will result in a slide with extra white or black on the sides.)

Page size requirements differ depending on the software used - see the supported software list at right for setup specifics.

Slides from Digital Camera Files
We accept .jpg files from your digital camera for 35mm slide output.

Files from 4-6 megapixels should be adequate for 35mm slides. We recommend 1500-2000 total pixels along the longest edge for a good slide.

Files will be shot "as-is". We do not edit, crop, or color-correct your files. If your files require any editing for color or composition, make any needed edits in your photo editing software before submitting the files.

Files that are not a 2:3 ratio will be shot so that the image is not cropped in either direction (extra black will appear on the sides).

Working Area
The page you design your slide on will be the exact slide area that shoots to film. (Note that in order to completely fill the slide mount your setup must be in a slide ratio as described above.)

When film is mounted the slide mount will clip the image slightly on all edges. You should leave a safe area of at least 1/4 inch on all sides of your slide page when placing text or graphics to ensure nothing gets clipped by the slide mount.

Make sure your background fills the entire slide page area to avoid black or white on the sides.

Output Information
35mm slides are output at 4,000 line resolution to Solitaire film recorders on Kodak Professional films.

Processing and color standards are carefully maintained through constant quality control.

Slides are delivered in presentation-quality unmarked plastic mounts. Glass mounts are available for an additional charge of $1.50 per slide.

Scan Guidelines
Images scanned for use as background elements in a page layout software should be scanned at 100-150 dpi for best results.

We recommend 150 dpi for scans used as photo insets in a page layout software - some scans may benefit from a slightly higher dpi (200 dpi maximum).

You should scan your images in at the final size. Stretching/shrinking an image can cause pixel distortion and is not recommended.

Scan in the RGB color mode to match the output device. Save as .eps or .tif for placement into your presentation software for the most dependable output.

We realize that large numbers of photo-intensive images imported into a page layout software may exceed our 20 MB job limit. If your scans do not exceed 150 dpi, the meg charge will be waived for orders over $100. Extra turnaround time may be required for large jobs.

Files supplied directly from Photoshop (or any other raster-based program), should be set up to follow our Photoshop guidelines for file format, size, pixel count, etc. Click the Photoshop link in the supported software section at right for details.

Design Suggestions
Slides should generally be used to highlight the speaker's points, not present his entire speech. Thus, you should keep your points "short and sweet".

Use key words instead of entire sentences and as a general rule, try to minimize the lines of text (5-7 lines are recommended).

If you try to pack too much info onto your slide your audience may be too busy trying to read and may lose interest. Avoid text smaller than 18 point for body copy. Headlines should be 1.5 to 2 times the size of the body text.

Evaluate your entire presentation and choose consistent sizes and color schemes for all slides to give your presentation a polished, professional look.
